Current Officers (2024-2025)
Nessa Pesaran Afsharian
President
Nessa is a structural biologist. Her research focuses on understanding the structure, function, and dynamics of GPCR and non-GPCR membrane proteins. She loves cats and enjoys reading books and working out in her free time.

Javi Covington
Vice President
Javi's research involves characterizing enzymes in the biosynthetic pathways of natural products with anticancer properties and novel chemistries found in the genome of sponge-associated cyanobacteria. Outside of lab, he enjoys surfing, spending time outside, and weekend road trips!

Nupur Sehgal
Treasurer
In her lab, Nupur investigates the biological function of the endoribonuclease YloC using a kinetics-based approach. Beyond the lab, Nupur enjoys dance, traveling, and cinema, finding inspiration in movement, new experiences, and storytelling.

Antara Banerjee
Secretary
Antara's research delves into the intricate world of GPCRs, employing NMR to explore their structure, function and dynamics. Outside of her scientific pursuits, Antara is an avid reader, writer, and cook, bringing creativity and precision to both her professional and personal endeavors.

Mahi Athar
Social media Manager
Mahi's work focuses on understanding the mechanism of action of oxalate decarboxylase, a protein responsible for breaking down insoluble oxalate into formate. By studying this process, Mahi aims to uncover insights that could have broader implications in biochemistry. Outside the lab, Mahi enjoys canoeing and road trips, always seeking new adventures on both land and water.

Advisor
Dr. Matthew Eddy
Faculty Advisor
Dr. Eddy's knowledge and guidance have helped us to create Fellows of Chemical Biology. His research focuses on structural biology of human membrane receptor proteins, known as GPCRs, to understand their drug-binding mechanisms and their functions in cell signaling.
